What Will bE?

Usually the end of a calendar year is one for reflection, and hope for the new year. So here we go. My t-shirt business is down roughly 15% for the year which means a pay cut for me the owner. The fine arts part of my business however is only down about 2 or 3 per cent which includes sales, awards and teaching revenue. What I hope for in the next year are more opportunities to exhibit my work, especially outside of Pittsburgh, although opportunities to exhibit and sell art are important wherever they occur.

Coming up in January will be my show of recent etchings at Westminster College in New Wilmington, PA. I'll be framing for that show next week although a lot of work is already framed for that show.

Meanwhile, Altered States is still going strong at the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts, and my work is also on display at the Art Loft in Mt. Lebanon, Gallerie Chiz in Shadyside and at the Pittsburgh Center for the Shop

2 Shows 2 Cities

Tonight is the opening of "Small Wonders", an exhibit of small works at the Maryland Federation of Art Circle Gallery in Annapolis. I have 2 etchings in this show, Island Palms and Bent Tree. Getting your work into a juried show is always a gamble, and this time it paid off. I've had a piece at this gallery last year as part of their American Landscape exhibit. If you're in the area, stop in and check it out. Plus Annapolis is a great town to walk around in.

My exhibit of 15 limited edition screenprint landscapes opens tomorrow night at the Art Loft on Washington Road in Mount Lebanon. I've been making these colorful landscape prints for over 10 years, usually one or two new images each year. My newest is called "Autumn in Fern Hollow" which depicts a scene in Pittsburgh's Frick Park. I used to play volleyball there years ago. Then they made it a dog walking area. The last time I was there they were making it into an environmental experimental area. I'll have to get back there and see how it's going. If you can make it to the opening Friday night, that would be great, if not, try to get to see the show as this is the first time all of these prints have been exhibited together.

Welcome to my Blog

Hi! and welcome to my Blog--Prints and That. I'm a Pittsburgh printmaker trying to exhibit and sell my work not only here in the burgh, but around the country as well. Printing t-shirts at Norulak Screen Printing keeps the body together, printing etchings at the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts keeps the soul together. Feel free to visit my website at http://www.norulak.com/ and comment about anything if you feel inclined to do so. I just updated most of my pages, so there might be a glitch here and there.

I have my work at several shows right now. First there's the annual holiday show at the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts. Also at PCA I have 2 etchings in the Pittsburgh Print Group show entitled "Altered States". I'm showing my screenprints at the Art Loft in Mt. Lebanon thru the second week in January. Opening Reception is Friday December 5th from 6 to 8 PM. I also have some pieces at the Holiday sale at Gallerie Chiz in Shadyside. That opening is also on Friday December 5th.

Out of town, I have 2 etchings at the Maryland Federation of Art Gallery in Annapolis. Opening is December 4th. The show will be up all month.

Coming in January, I'll be showing my recent etchings at Westminster College, just north of Pittsburgh. More info later.
